Yesenia is an award-winning educator with over a decade of experience in the education field and family and community engagement. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education K-12, she has earned the CREC Core Value Demand Equity Award (2021, 2023) and a National Innovation Family Engagement Nomination (2024) for her dedication to creating inclusive, equitable programs for the Hartford County communities. Yesenia is also bilingual in Spanish and English, which enhances her ability to connect with diverse families and teach Spanish.
In January 27, 2025 Rivera-Ortiz was appointed by the Simsbury Board of Selectmen as a regular member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
With a background in Montessori education and a passion for community, Yesenia funded Cubs Learning Hub to offer fun, creative, and enriching programs for all children. When not at the Hub, she serves as a Family and Community Engagement Coordinator at at CREC Montessori Magnet School, enjoys art projects, adventures with her family, and working with her Simsbury Girl Scouts Troop 63382.
